Your financial contribution brings our mission to life!
While there are many ways to help Catholic Charities, a financial donation is one of the most powerful. It allows our organization to operate in the most efficient manner to help the most people through our programs and services now and into the future. We continually look for the best way we can meet the needs in central and southwest Iowa. Your belief in our mission makes all of the difference!
Other Ways to Give
If you prefer to make a gift by mail, please send it to the address below. We will use it where our need is greatest unless you note one of our specific programs in the memo line of your check.

Giving appreciated securities can be extremely beneficial for both the donor and the nonprofit. Donors who have a portfolio of stock that have experienced substantial growth are able to forego capital gains taxes while still being able to claim the full value of the donation on their taxes. Use the instructions provided below to transfer your stock directly to Catholic Charities so you don’t have to sell your appreciated securities and hassle with those capital gains. Please alert Bobbi Jo Smith when you request a stock transfer from your broker so that we can properly credit and acknowledge you for the contribution when it is received. Per IRS requirements, donated securities are valued at the average between the highest and lowest selling prices for the securities on the gift date.
Donor-advised funds, often referred to as DAFs, have quickly become one of the most popular giving mechanisms in philanthropy. A donor-advised fund is a philanthropic financial vehicle in which donors contribute assets like cash, real estate or stock to an investment fund managed by a sponsoring organization (such as the Catholic Foundation of Southwest Iowa). The donor receives an immediate tax deduction. The sponsoring organization manages the funds over time. Later, when the donor decides to donate to a 501(3)(c) nonprofit organization – like Catholic Charities! – the donor will recommend a grant to the sponsoring organization, which will then disburse the gift.
If you already have a DAF, you can recommend a grant to Catholic Charities at any time. Information your sponsoring organization may need to know is below:
Legal Name: Catholic Council for Social Concern dba Catholic Charities, Diocese of Des Moines
EIN #42-0680464
Catholic Charities
601 Grand Avenue
Des Moines, IA 50309
When you recommend a grant from your DAF, please also email Bobbi Jo Smith so that we can properly credit and acknowledge you for the contribution when it is received.
If you are a donor interested in establishing a donor-advised fund, consider the Catholic Foundation of Southwest Iowa, a close partner of Catholic Charities that manages financial transactions, oversees strategic investments and distributes grant and endowment funds guided by the Catholic values investing terms set by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
Planned gifts are promises to support Catholic Charities through mechanisms such as your estate plan. They can be as easy as listing Catholic Charities as a beneficiary of a retirement plan or as complex as giving tangible assets after your lifetime. Planned gifts allow almost any donor to have a significant impact without annual payments or fees today. The Catholic Foundation of Southwest Iowa facilitates all planned gifts on behalf of Catholic Charities. Donors can also support one of our existing endowed or agency funds currently managed by the CFSWIA.
By sponsoring one of Catholic Charities events, your contribution also speaks to the community. Your sponsorship is a public ‘thumbs up’ to the work that is happening in our agency. Our signature annual event is Shamrocks & Shenanigans held every spring. We also hold smaller, program-specific events throughout the year. Contact us to learn more about event sponsorship!
