The Catholic Charities Food Pantry at 1815 Hubbell Avenue in Des Moines will not be able to distribute monthly food boxes until further notice due to an accident that caused structural damage to our facility. During this temporary closure, while we plan for the reconstruction and temporary service for our monthly guests, we still serve daily food bags from the window.

Catholic Charities helps those who are struggling in central and southwest Iowa 24 hours a day, seven days per week, 365 days a year. With that kind of schedule, we need the help of volunteers to support our mission to Empower Individuals and Strengthen Families.

Become a Meal Provider

We are in immediate need of meal providers for evening meals at our Emergency Family Shelter. This simple act of kindness provides a sense of normalcy and nourishment for the families we are helping along their path back to self-sufficiency. We need YOUR HELP to fill the calendar and are grateful for one-time meal providers or those who are able to do so on a monthly basis. Become a Volunteer

While most of our direct client work is done by our trained staff, we have many other opportunities for volunteers to get involved and make a difference! There is something for everyone to do, from providing a home-cooked meal to the Emergency Family Shelter, to helping with yard work at the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault program, to giving a couple hours of your time to help feed those coming to the Food Pantry, to helping sort items for a new refugee’s family apartment, and much more.
