Services
Without basic nutrition, it is difficult to think beyond day-to-day needs. Catholic Charities helps our clients fulfill their basic needs and helps explore other barriers that our clients face.
We are meeting more than just hunger.
The Catholic Charities Food Pantry is a member of the Des Moines Area Religious Council Food Pantry Network and partners with the Food Bank of Iowa to help feed those who are hungry in our community. In addition to food, the pantry also provides personal hygiene items, diapers, wipes, formula and pet food to those we serve.

Free Food Window
The Catholic Charities’ Food Pantry Food Window is open to all, no questions asked, during regular business hours. Fresh produce, milk and other dairy products, rice, Meals from the Heartland and beans are available while supplies last. Baked goods including bread and pastries are available every day as well. The Catholic Charities’ Food Pantry also partners with other community organizations to collect and give out food rescue items.

Emergency Food Boxes
A three-day supply of food for eligible families are available once per month at no cost to the family. Items in the emergency food boxes include peanut butter, cereal, canned fruit and vegetables, meat, eggs, fresh produce and more. Food quantity is based on family size. Diapers and formula are also available for families in need, while supplies last.

We couldn’t do it without YOU!
The Catholic Charities’ Food Pantry is powered by the selfless love and generosity of our volunteers. Our team of 90-100 dedicated volunteers are what enables us to better care for the needs of our clients. Volunteers help with the pantry operations by “shopping” with our clients when they receive their monthly food box, assist with preparing and distributing daily food bags, help with food rescue and food pick up and pitch in wherever is needed around the pantry. We are always looking for more dedicated individuals to join us in making a true difference in the lives of those we serve.

According to Feeding America, 344,550 Iowans are facing hunger, that is 1 in 9 people. Food insecurity continues to be a rising issue in our community.
34% increase
The Catholic Charities’ Food Pantry saw a 34 percent increase in clients feed daily as compared to the previous year.
45% increase
The Catholic Charities’ Food Pantry saw a 45 percent increase in clients feed monthly as compared to the previous year.
615,401 pounds of food
Last year, 615,401 pounds of food were rescued and given to those who were hungry. Food rescue allows us to cut down on food waste in our community while supporting and uplifting pantry clients.
