Board Spotlight: June Keith
“One thing I love about Catholic Charities is their willingness to meet people where they are on the messy, dirty margins of life, not just in the comfortable spaces,” said June. “I would love for more people to know about the work Catholic Charities does.”
Why I Serve
June Keith, Staff Attorney for Iowa Migrant Movement for Justice, knows the impact Catholic Charities has on those in need in our community. As a new member of the Catholic Charities Board of Directors, she hopes to help the organization grow and thrive.
Growing up Catholic, June explains she always knew of the work different Catholic Charities agencies did within whatever Diocese she lived in. When she moved to Iowa in 2016 and found herself with time to volunteer, she immediately reached out to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Des Moines, to get involved.
“My heart runs to social justice and Catholic Charities’ focus on social justice within the Church is something that stands out to me,” said June.
June started by volunteering weekly at the Catholic Charities Emergency Family Shelter and assisted with general shelter upkeep and maintenance. She also helped sort and organize donations at the Catholic Charities Refugee Services’ Warehouse. Currently, she makes it a point to try and volunteer about once a month while also providing support and guidance through her professional work as an immigration attorney to Catholic Charities Refugee Services and the clients we serve.
June is excited to join the Catholic Charities Board of Directors and to learn even more about the organization while furthering its mission to Empower Individuals and Strengthen Families.
“I really support the whole mission of Catholic Charities,” said June. “My family has supported Catholic Charities financially for a long time but service on the board is a great way for me to contribute my time and talents as well.”
June is also looking forward to embarking on the next century of service with Catholic Charities. She hopes more people will learn about the great work being done and get involved.
